High School Music Appreciation year III
Miss Black
2011-2012
Course Description: To recognize fine music and understand what makes it worth listening to by studying its theory, history and form. Last year, we discussed an introduction to musical instruments and form. This year, we will begin a more detailed study of the various musical periods.
*This course, although building on Music Appreciation year I and II, does not require having taken either.
Grade:
Quizzes: 40%
Participation: 20%
Tests: 40%
Concert Attendance: pass/fail
Texts: none, but access to the internet is needed. If this poses a problem for the student, please contact me as soon as possible. Assignments will be posted on the HFA music blog: hfamusica.blogspot.com
Please Note: As music is best experienced live, each student is required to attend any two concerts listed on the blog by the end of the year. Each family is responsible for coordinating the tickets and attendance. Parents must sign and date the attached slip for the student to receive credit for the attendance. I will be giving introductory lectures for each of the various concerts to aid the students in better appreciating the concerts.
