Junior High Study Guide for Final Exam Trimester 3

1. Know all the pieces and their composers from this trimester.
2. Know the biographies of Dvorak, Smetana, Wagner, Vaughan Williams, and Chopin (only the material we covered in class).  Know their dates and which country they are from.
3.Define: nationalism, Mazurka, Polonaise, Prelude, Etude, Salon, Leitmotif
4. Know all theory we have gone over in Thursday choir periodes: chant rhythm (arsis, thesis, ictus etc.), modes, neums

High School Study Guide for Final Exam Trimester 3: 1. Know the titles and composers of all the music for this trimester. 2. Know the dates and characteristics of the Romantic and Modern Eras. 3. Be able to list sample composers and their dates from both Eras. Know to which musical era each composer belongs. 4. Define Leitmotif, symphony, programmatic music, minimalism. 5. Define Nationalism. List sample pieces and their composers and be able to explain how each is an example of musical nationalism. 6. Review the lecture on the horn. 7. What are the movement titles of Beethoven's 6th symphony? What is the nickname of the symphony? Explain how it is an example of Romantic music. 8. Why is Beethoven important in the history of music? Wagner? 9. Review musical impressionism. Dates, composers, names of pieces etc. ***A reminder to have turned in slips for the two concerts you have attended this year. Failure to do so by the end of finals week results in point loss.
